The overriding principle or ‘ground truth’ the UK military have determined is that no border can be sealed; all borders are by nature porous and this fact alone fashions their operational concept of operations when forced to operate against a threat that can slip from one side of a border to the sanctuary of the other. This is true not only for counter-insurgency operations but when fighting terrorism, criminal smuggling, drug running or human trafficking.

When, through patrolling, interdiction and imaginative use of G-WASP, ground domination is achieved by the security forces and the operating environment becomes hostile to the terrorist, criminal or smuggler they will be displaced to another area possibly less favourable to them and where they will more likely face greater risk in movement.

Coordinated, responsive, aggressive and well planned, intelligence-led use of G-WASP at the zone and sector level will lead to tactical defeat for the terrorist, criminal or smuggler. When they no longer possess the initiative, lose their freedom of manoeuvre and find themselves having to operate in an environment hostile to them, take unacceptable risk and lose men and material to the security forces their morale and motivation will lessen. Meridian will provide the necessary training for commanders and operators by the delivery of ‘train the trainers’ courses utilising ex-UK military who have conducted these types of surveillance and intelligence-led operations in both battlefield and cross-border situations.
